History of Siaogang Senior High School

The mission of Siaogang Senior High School is to cultivate mentally and physically healthy young people as a foundation for advanced studies and professional knowledge. In line with the Ministry of Education’s Mid-term Senior High School Improvement Plan, the Kaohsiung City Government decided to establish Siaogang Senior High School on May 10, 1990. A preparation center was set up on July 1 of the same year, with Mr. Tzeng Kuo-guang appointed as the chairperson responsible for the school’s establishment.

On June 15, 1990, land was expropriated for the school, covering an area of 59,598 square meters. After completing the blueprint and budget for the first phase of construction, the design of the school buildings began on March 28, 1991. The design, created by Yuan-Chang Huang Architect Office, was selected through a series of evaluations by scholars and professionals. Construction proceeded according to the approved budget.

The school was built in three phases. In the first phase, the Administration Building and Western Building were completed on December 12, 1992, followed by the Eastern Building on October 12, 1993. In the second phase, the Library and Teaching Building were completed on January 24, 1996. In the third phase, the Science Laboratory Building was constructed on July 29, 1998. By August 1998, the main campus buildings were nearly completed. An aerial photograph of the campus shows that the layout resembles the Chinese character "" (chung), symbolizing the principle of moderation.

Kaohsiung City stretches from north to south. While the downtown area is prosperous and developed, educational institutions and infrastructure in northern and southern Kaohsiung once lagged behind the residents’ needs. Siaogang Senior High School was founded not only to provide educational access for students in the Siaogang District and surrounding areas but also to promote local development and prosperity.
